Been working on some new thrown forms. Possibly to use as a lamp base. Someone I work with wants to collaborate on this and he might make some shades and the fixtures inside and then I am trying to throw a base. I want something more fluid and have only done one so far, we will see what else I can make of it. Some photos are below!.
Also have a photo of the finished medallion for the SLU 2012 grads in the fine and performing arts department. This has been a fun little project to participate in the last 2 years I hope all who received them enjoy them.

Recently myself and a couple of friends took a little weekend trip to Kansas City. I had never been but had hearing for a while that their art scene was really growing and a great place to see some great artwork. All three of us are artists with different focuses but there was definitely something for everyone. We spent much of our time at the Nelson Atkins museum and the sculpture garden outside, which in itself filled most of 2 days. I would really like to go again for a longer period of time and on a first friday when a lot of the smaller studios and galleries open their doors for the public. I was really glad to see that much like the Saint Louis Art Museum the Nelson Atkins also offers free entry.
I was excited to see a Rodin exhibit on display as he is one of my favorite artists. The only downside about seeing sculpture I like in a gallery setting is not being allowed to touch it! I crave feeling the textures of a piece but a las just seeing these casts were enough I suppose. We saw a little bit of everything in the museum from religious art over the centuries, to Native American art, to ancient Asian art. I have included some pictures of my favorites. I would definitely recommend a trip to KC it was a fun time and we’ll definitely be going back.
I will try to keep these in order, however do not have titles for all of them.

This past weekend was the Laumeier Art Fair which is an event I have been going to for years. While still in school I had my work featured in a student booth there and some of my friends had work shown as well. This was the first time I was there not as a volunteer or viewing friends work. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the fair and it was just as crowded as ever. I really enjoy the park and the food and live music but this post is going to focus on some of my favorite artists (Spoiler, they are ALL 3d artists)
Ceramics:
Karen Bell - Super lifelike sculpture of the not so cute and cuddly type of animals. Lots of lizards, and turtles, and bats oh my! These sculptures which are sometimes by themselves and other times on vessels or other objects look like they could leap or walk right off the pedestals. The color and texture she uses all add to some great pieces.
Terry Habeger – From a distance some of this work appears to be a blocky painting, but they are in fact ceramic sculptures. The bright bold colors instantly draw you in and then you just stare in amazement at the angles and how smooth everything is the wat these sculptures jut out of the wall and reach for you. I believe Terry exhibited here last year too and I was still just as fascinated.
Jimmy Liu – Fun, whimsical, yet functional teapots were what was mostly on display here, although his website shows many other offerings. There is some great realistic sculpting of animals and some cute little faces that would make any of these pots fun in the home.
Wood
Craig Lossing- Could not find his website, or the one I found didn’t seem to be working, but this site does have some of his work shown. Really enjoyed his wood coloring and how fine he could trim the wood down to. I bought a small spinning top from his booth and continue to play with it at any chance I get.
Steven Spiro - Amazing wooden table and chairs. The wavy lines that make up the supports are so much fun to look at and explore. It looks like a little living world under a seemingly normal table top. Each piece is totally unique, could spend a lot of time here.
Glass
Stephen Rich Nelson- My friend described some of these elaborate forms as teapots you might find at the Mad Hatter’s table in Alice in Wonderland. There are definitely lots of bright colors and fun whimsical stacked forms. They also have some simpler although just as bright little sculptures like pumpkins and pears.
Mixed Media
Eric and Karen Shi – Okay so this one is actually 2d, weird I know. But they were truly fascinating. The works go by the name Embroidery Wonders, and is just that. From a far it looks just like naturalistic paintings or photographs, but when you get up close you start to see each little thread making up these works. They are little wonders and really amazing. I could not find a website or much internet coverage of these works, so might take some more research.

For the next couple weeks I will be making the graduation medallions for Saint Louis University again. They will be a little less complicated than last year but still will be fun to make and a great thing for the Fine and performing arts grads this year.
I have some newer stuff done that needs to be photographed and should be starting to show up in my shop sometime in the near future. Some of this include a newer clay body I worked with and also some new textures.
Also there is a show opening this Friday at Mad Art Gallery in Saint Louis that will feature some of my work as well as some of my best friends work. It is a group show with many types of art represented that has an Alice in Wonderland theme and will be up throughout the month of April. The opening night will feature live music and performances and has a cost of $10. More information can be found here.

First off let me say a reminder about a show some of my work will be in. Some of my small white flower pieces will be in a themed show called Through the Looking Glass help at Mad Art Gallery more info can be found here. The opening reception is April 6th (next week) from 7pm-10pm and it will be up throughout the month of April.
Secondly I have a picture of some freshly fired glaze work. This is the newer clay body I got when I purchased my wheel, and I was kind of disappointed that I did not get more speckles in it. Maybe it speckles more if it is in a hand-built thing instead of on the wheel where a lot of it may be taken out. The clear coat on it though is just gorgeous! When I use more in the future I will probably go more with just clear, although I did like the crackle as well. A close up shot of the crackle can be seen on my facebook page. Leaving it unglazed looks too plain.
Lastly I am including a picture of some earrings I made with sculpey. They are little piranha plants biting my ears! I found some on etsy via pinterest and decided to try them out.

Just a quick note!
I recently (as in last nite about the same time I was posting the last post) created an artist fan page for myself to advertise my art and blog and such on something besides my own personal profile on Facebook. I would appreciate it if you could take a look and “like” me and I’ll keep updating it with great images and info on shows I may be doing along the way. Here is the link!
Also I created one for my best friend who is also an artist. You may have seen some of his sculpture work on this blog but he does a lot of drawing as well. He would also appreciate some more fans and we are going to try to keep it updated with shows and pictures etc. Here is that link!

As I breifly mentioned in my last post I recently attended a pinterest party. What is a pinterest party you may ask?! Well, a group of ladies (I guess men could join, but as my guy friend said “that sounds like the girliest thing ever”) some of which I work with and others who I met for the first time there, got together and each made a recipe from pinterest. While we eat all this delish food we also craft with tutorials or ideas also from, you guessed it Pinterest. We are planning on making this a monthly thing so there may be posts with future pinterest party creations in the future.
I made some BBQ Chicken Calzones with this recipe, only I added peanuts, it had a really Thai flavor to it. I also made some cute little owls with this pin! The one I made at the party was kind of small so I made a larger one later.
Here are some pictures of the creations!
